I try to get back to Japan for some of the major holidays. New Year’s is a very special time, and the most important holiday, officially celebrated from January 1-3. Deep cleaning of homes and preparation of symbolic foods take place the week before so that for 3 days, the family can celebrate health, happiness and peace together without anyone cooking.
